A LONG Day at Work

So today is a planned running day, I should have got out and put in 2 miles! Right now I am planning on running every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Well, that plan did not work out quite as well as I hoped!

I had to be in Tampa (a 2 and a half hour drive) to do a shoot for ABC New Nightline by 7AM! So I woke up at 4:30 got ready and hit the road. I was hoping to be home in time to run, but I just now walked in the door and it is 10:00PM. A long day!

So the plan is to wake up early and run tomorrow! My legs are feeling good after having two days off so I am going to push it kind of hard tomorrow! Then off to work again!

Day 8 – 2 miles

Distance: 2 Miles
Pace: 9:42 / Mile

So, I ran my best pace today. 9:42 per mile (previous was 10.5 per mile). Not terribly impressive, but it is better than anything I have done since I started trying to get back into shape.

I am very surprised to have my best pace today. While running I felt heavier, even though the scale says I am one pound lighter, and I felt slower even though the clock said I was faster.

Last night was the Super Bowl and I was at a friend’s house pretty late. I didn’t get to sleep until around 2:30 am and I didn’t eat the best yesterday either so I have a feeling that is why I felt heavy and slow!

Day 5 – Another 2 Miles

I woke up with the hunger to run today! It is the first time that I wanted to run in a long, long time! So I got out of bed, ate a banana, drank some water and started to stretch. As I was stretching I realized I haven’t really set any goals yet!

So I figured I would set an average mile time goal. But first I had to figure out what times I am running now!

So I got out of the house and ran 2 miles.

My legs are sore from starting to run again this week, but I felt good otherwise.

I ran 2 miles in 21 minutes. That is an average of 10.5 minutes per mile. Not bad if you are running a marathon! HAHA.

So now its time to figure out what my goals are!

Day 3 – 2 Miles

I woke up this morning with sore legs from running 2 miles on Day 1, but I was not going to let that stop me! So I stretched for about 15 minutes then hit the road.

The first ¼ mile felt fine, but then at the ½ mile mark my legs let me know just how out of shape I am. I felt like it was the first time running in my life! So I slowed my pace quite a bit for the next ¼ mile.

At the ¾ mile mark my legs were really feeling it so I decided to walk to the 1-mile mark.

“It is only a 2 mile run, what am I doing walking” I thought to myself!

I then remembered how long it had been since I ran for exercise and started to change back to a positive mindset and finished walking the ¼ mile. It was just what I needed!

I was able to jog the remaining mile with out stopping. There was a bit of soreness in my legs, but I was determined to finish!

Light Exercise Day

Today’s plan was to go fishing early in the morning, catch a nice healthy meal, go home, have some steamed vegetables for lunch then go for a 5-mile bike ride. Well, that WAS the plan!

I did get out on the water this morning and was able to catch a few fish for dinner. All was going to plan! Then at 10:30am work called and they needed me at noon to do a full day job at Disney, so off the water and on to work.

The job at Disney had me walking all around the park. I was from one side to the next, all while carrying a 34lb bag of audio equipment that was strapped to my back! Because I was at work all day (didn’t get home until 11pm) my diet suffered and I wasn’t able to eat as healthy as I hoped!

There is always tomorrow!

Every Journey Starts with 1 Step (or two miles)

Two miles! That is what I just ran.

Well, some of it was running! Some of it was jogging and some of it was fast crawling! I was able to keep a somewhat respectable pace through out the full two miles. Only stopping once to stretch out my quadriceps that were tightening up, the rest of the run I stayed moving!

This run felt like the first day of spring training when coach would push everybody very hard just to see what type of shape his team was in. I always went into spring training in shape, but coach made me feel out of shape by pushing me so hard. This time I feel out of shape, but it is because I am! That will soon change!

My Initial Exercise Plan

It has been a while since I have held on to any type of exercise plan. I have lost motivation and/or interest in any plan very fast. So with that in mind I plan to start a little slow and work my way up!

WEEK 1

Jog ~2 miles
Sit-ups
Push-ups

The last time I jogged I was able to do far more than 2 miles with not to much of a problem. So I will start there. If I cant finish the two miles, I will walk part of it and get back to jogging as soon as I can.

Sit-ups and push-ups, I have no clue how many of each I can do. I will do as many of each as I can per set and do 2 or 3 sets of each.

Beyond

This first week should give me a decent baseline of my fitness (or lack there of). I will take what I find in week one and either expand or draw back a bit.

We shall see!

Light Exercise at Work

Today I worked for PGA Tour Productions covering the PGA International Merchandise Show. We were filming 3 segments for Inside the PGA that airs on The Golf Channel. Well this show was held at the Orange County Convention Center.

If you have ever been to the Orange County Convention Center you know that it is GIANT! During the course of my work today I walked an estimated 2.5 miles all while carrying my audio gear (that is harnessed onto my body) that weighs 30lbs.

Sure I didn’t get out and run, nor did I do any sort of weight training or resistance training, but it was certainly a workout!

My official weight loss journey does not start until the 1st of February, but why not start documenting what I get accomplished now?
